We’re excited to offer this single day portrait oil painting workshop with master painter, Thomas Garner! Whether you’re an absolute beginner just looking for a workshop to teach you the fundamentals of oil painting or someone seeking to strengthen your already existing skills, this workshop is brimmed with useful techniques and exercise. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, Garner will guide you through the time-honored secrets of the masters essential to creating a portrait in the classical Chiaroscuro style in a single day. The course will begin by talking about properly preparing your canvas and mixing a palette. You’ll work from a live model for an hour to get you started and create an underpainting. In the afternoon, after your lunch break, Garner will demonstrate the color stage and you’ll concentrate on completing your painting using alla prima (wet-on-wet), direct painting techniques with rich colors and bravura brush strokes. This workshop is from 10:30-5:30PM on Saturday, May 18th with a one hour lunch break from 1-2PM.
