Wake Up, Make Something
CLASS IS FULL. This sign painting class is unique in that it shares a focus on both typography and the mechanics of painting a sign. The curriculum for this class is deeply rooted in Doc Guthrie’s own desire to provide a one day class where aspiring sign painters are able to get the necessary secrets of the trade that only someone with years of experience is able to know. The main objective is to get you to a place where whether you’re working on a sign that’s 12” or 12’ in size, you’re prepared and able to assess how to execute it with efficiency and confidence. Curriculum: - How to use, hold, clean, oil, and store a sign painting brush. - Making a stroke. - Properly pouring and storing paints and mediums. - How to mix and thin 1 shot paints. - Powdering a wall. - Using a pounce wheel. - Using a mahl stick. - How to properly stand and position your body. - Making and transferring a pattern. In this workshop, you will transfer a pattern and hand-letter your own sign as you follow his lead. Doc will also give an introductory lecture and demonstration on basic sign design and layout.
