Wake Up, Make Something
Much like the way a sculptor chisels from a block of stone, modeling of form in oil paint begins with a broad aspect and ends with refinement. The student must first learn to see form in the simplest possible sense; as a unified arrangement of light and dark masses of color. This is a four-part course designed to give students a practical understanding of modeling the head using the 'alla prima' method. Sessions will progress from simplified study in monochrome to the articulation of form of great complexity, with a full color palette. Learning objectives include: mass drawing, modeling of form, color mixing, palette maintenance, paint handling, edges and more. The class is designed to offer an ongoing study of modeling in oil paint. Students are free to drop in for any of the four sessions or to take all four sequentially. This is a rare opportunity to participate in an affordable, weekly, oil painting practice group under the tutelage of an experienced painter and teacher.
