Wake Up, Make Something
Young Makers Club is a five-week long art camp Blue Rooster is offering for children 8 and up! The camp consists of weekly classes in printmaking (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and sculpture (Monday, Wednesday & Friday). We will be kicking off our camp with printmaking beginning July 5th and ending August 4th. To cater to busy families we will be offering varied class packages. Classes can be purchased individually or by the week, on a rolling basis or as a bundle upfront. They will be held 10am -12pm with a provided snack break. Please see weekly class descriptions below to see what each week has in store, as all are quite different and filled with new and exciting things to make! Refunds permitted with cancellations two weeks prior to class start date. If your child has any food or behavioral specificities please make us aware of them prior to class and feel free to pack your own snack. The Young Makers Club is held at 4661 Hollywood Blvd. Once you sign up we will contact you to determine the exact dates you would like to come.
"And now!" cried Max, "Let the wild Rumpus Start!" We all have them, we all know them, but what do they look like? In this exploratory weeklong papier-maché mask making intensive, we will give our wild things a face! Children will learn how to sketch and block out their masks, mix wheat paste, rip and layer paper, sculpt features and paint their wild things to completion! Ages 8+. 2 hour class. Snack provided. Friend: "I love your shirt!" You: "Thanks, I printed it my self!" Friend: "That is SO cool. How??" In this 2-day fabric screen-printing class we will go over the basics of printing on fabric! We will design, expose and print with our screens in class. A blank T-shirt will be provided but please do feel free to bring anything from home that you might want to print on! Canvas bags? Old T-shirts? Solid Fabric? Put your mark on all of em! No experience necessary! Ages 8+. All materials provided. Dress for a Mess!
"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life" -Pablo Picasso. And with that dust we're gonna make some cool stuff! In this class children will explore working with plaster and Celluclay. We will make balloon sculptures, leaf casts, bowls, bottles and hand print keepsakes! This class is broken up into three separate parts, with each project wrapping up each day, perfect if a three-day commitment is not in the cards! Ages 8+ 2 hour class. Snack provided. Ever wanted to make your own poster? The cover for your comic book or zine? Or just a piece of art that you can reproduce again, and again through the art of manual printing? This 2-day screen-printing class will go over the same basics as the fabric printing course, but with the option to create a stunning multi-colored print! A good technique to know, whatever you should be printing on! Ages 8+. All materials provided. Dress for a mess!
Exactly what it sounds like. In this class we will be implementing the idea and practice of upcycling materials. What a treasure trove a blue recycling bin can be! Cardboard, wood, plastic bottles, CD's, paper, aluminum! We will be making intention shadow boxes, beads, castles and all sorts of other fun and beautiful art as well as learning about the benefits of recycling! We will be calling on parents for this class to help bring materials from home if they can and to check in with the instructor for any special instructions. This class is broken up into three separate parts, with each project wrapping up each day, perfect if a three-day commitment is not in the cards! Ages 8+ 2 hour class. Snack Provided
There are so many ways you can print! And on so many different things! In this 2-day class we will be exploring the unique and exciting world of photo transfers onto wood, and carved block printing in rubber! Please do bring a photo from home (don’t worry, it will return unharmed!), and an idea in mind of what your rubber block will be! No experience necessary! Ages 8+. All materials provided. Dress for a mess!
