1-DAY WORKSHOP: $95 Creating A Rich Drawing - The role of texture, tone, and mark in building descriptive drawings that convey the nuances of light and varied surfaces. We will work in monotone media, i.e., water soluble graphite, fountain pens and waterproof ink, a range of cool and warm grey Pitt Artist Pens, white Pitt Artist Pens and white grease pencils aka White China Markers on white and toned papers.
Artist Don Colley will demonstrate in class various techniques from setting up the sketch to building complex values and textures using varied nib widths, brush pens, brushes, and yes, his hands. You will meet at the store, and after some technique demonstration, will head up to Barnsdall Park to draw.
Materials List Recommended paper - a watercolor paper pad or sketchbook such as a Stillman & Birn Gamma series, the landscape format is nice for landscape and Urban sketching, or Moleskine landscape format watercolor sketchbook. Also, tinted Paper such as that in a Strathmore toned sketchbook. I often prefer the tan paper however the grey paper can be very useful in Urban or industrial areas. Suggested drawing supplies - fountain pen or a dip pen and a waterproof ink that is designed for fountain pens, or whatever dependable water proof inks carried by Blue Rooster or recommended by the good folks there. Pitt Artist Pens of various greys in the regular nib size and in the Big Brush Pen. Graphite, both common varieties and waterproof, and watercolor pencils in black and various greys. It will not be necessary to have everything recommended here, best to bring a mix of what you like, and what you'd like to learn about.
